Why Join Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is a fun way to spend time with your child while fostering positive values like character, leadership, personal fitness, and citizenship. Here’s what makes Cub Scouting special:

  • Fun with Purpose: Kids join for the excitement, but they gain life skills along the way. Adventures in the outdoors, learning about personal safety, and celebrating family traditions are all part of the experience.
  • Belonging: Children join a den — a small group of peers — where they build self-esteem, learn teamwork, and develop friendships.
  • Values for Life: The core values we teach are found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
  • Respect for Nature: The Outdoor Code teaches Scouts how to care for the environment, reinforcing the importance of conservation and outdoor responsibility.

Scout Law
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Scout Oath
On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Outdoor Code

As an American, I will do my best to –

  • Be clean in my outdoor manners.
  • Be careful with fire.
  • Be considerate outdoors.
  • Be conservation minded.

How Does Cub Scouting Work?

Cub Scouting is a family-oriented program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Parents and guardians play an active role in guiding their child’s journey.

Two Levels of Cub Scouting

Cub Scouting fosters teamwork and social growth through two key levels:

  • Dens: Small groups of Scouts in the same grade that meet twice a month.
  • The Pack: All dens meet monthly for celebrations, activities, and achievements with family and friends.

Den Structure by Age Group

  • Lions (Kindergarten) & Tigers (1st Grade): Scouts join with an adult partner. Meetings are led by a den leader with adult partners assisting.
  • Wolves (2nd Grade), Bears (3rd Grade), and Webelos (4th Grade): Den leaders are supported by assistant leaders and sometimes a den chief (an older Scout mentor).
  • Arrow of Light (5th Grade): Focuses on preparing Scouts to transition into Scouts BSA.

Pack Meetings & Special Events

Monthly Pack meetings bring all dens together for fun activities, games, and celebrations. Exciting annual events include:

  • Pinewood Derby: Design, build, and race your own model car.

  • Blue and Gold Banquet: Celebrate Cub Scouting’s birthday and cheer on 5th graders as they advance to Scouts BSA.

  • Camping and Hikes: Enjoy outdoor adventures with family-friendly overnight and day camps.

  • Service Projects: Help your community through food drives, holiday cards for Veterans, crafts for Seniors, and more.

  • Local Events: Participate in parades, coastal cleanups, flag ceremonies, and other community activities.

How Can You Help?

The best way to support your child’s success is by participating in their Adventures. Keep your den leader informed about completed requirements to ensure your child receives proper recognition.

Cub Scouting thrives on volunteer leadership. You can make a huge difference by stepping into a role such as:

  • Den Leader: Guides den meetings using provided resources.
  • Cubmaster: Leads monthly Pack meetings and coordinates Pack programs.
  • Pack Committee Roles: Administrative roles such as Committee Chair, Advancement Chair, Secretary, or Treasurer to keep Pack 108 running smoothly.

Training & Youth Protection

Scouting America offers online training at my.Scouting.org to help parents and leaders succeed in their roles.

All volunteers must complete Youth Protection Training to ensure a safe environment for all Scouts. This essential training teaches adults how to recognize, respond to, and prevent potential risks. Parents are encouraged to complete this training as well. It must be renewed every two years to maintain membership.

Scouting America’s Diversity Statement

Scouting America promotes a culture where every person feels respected, valued, and a true sense of belonging. By living the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law, we welcome families from all backgrounds to help young people grow into successful leaders in diverse communities.
